What should I bring to my appointment?
Please bring all your current medications, chronic and acute as well as any wound dressings you may have been given by the hospital.
Do you need a referral to come to the wound clinic?
No you do not need a direct referral, if you are concerned about a wound you can call and make an appointment.
What happens during a consultation at the wound clinic?
The wound care practitioner will take a full history from you, she will clean and examine the wound and take measurements to create a personalised plan based on your wound. Other tests may be required such as a test to assess your blood flow to your lower extremities and possibly blood tests or an X ray.
When should I see a wound specialist?
If you have a wound that is slow healing ie; 2 weeks or more If your wound edges are getting red, hot and inflamed and painful If you have other co morbidities like Diabetic or peripheral vascular disease, sooner rather than later.
What are the signs of an infected wound?
Increased pain at or around the wound Redness, heat and inflammation An offensive odour, increased drainage or pus If you are experiencing fever or chills
What types of wounds are treated at the wound care clinic?
We treat ALL wounds Fresh post-operative wounds Chronic wounds like venous leg ulcers and diabetic foot ulcers, pressure injuries.
Is CliniCare wheelchair assessable?
Yes we are fully wheelchair assessable including our bathroom.
Will it be painful?
This also depends of the wound, we do all we can to minimize pain
Can I get my stoma products from CliniCare
Yes CliniCare will order your stock for you, we will also assist with authorisation from your medical aid regarding your stoma products.
When would I see the stoma therapist?
Ideally we would like to see you before your operation in order to offer you correct support, otherwise it is best for you to be seen by a stoma specialist in hospital as soon as possible.
What is the purpose of a well-baby visit?
To monitor baby’s growth and development, answer parents’ concerns and immunisations
How often she we bring baby to the well-baby clinic?
There is no set schedule for visits you can come as often as you want to We recommend you come at 2weeks, this ensures baby is gaining weight correctly Then usually with the each immunisation starting at 6weeks,10 weeks 14 weeks, 6mths, 9 mths and 1 year
What happens during a well-baby consultation?
The Midwife will first chat to the parents, addressing any concerns or questions Baby will have a physical examination looking at weight, length, head circumference and more The Midwife will first chat to the parents, addressing any concerns or questions Baby will have a physical examination looking at weight, length, head circumference and more Education and administration of vaccinations including what to expect after.
What vaccinations are given?
South Africa has two vaccination schedules, the state mandated EPI (Expanded programme of Immunisation) and the private vaccination schedule
What happens if baby has missed vaccines?
We will create a catch up plan to get baby up to date
