About service:
Your initial consultation may take up to 90 minutes. The Wound Care Specialist will review your medical and surgical history, current medication, how and when the wound developed, and any treatment already received. The wound is then assessed. Where a lower leg wound is involved, the assessment may include an ankle brachial pressure index (ABPI) to help evaluate circulation when clinically appropriate. These findings guide an individualised treatment plan. Treatment may include wound cleansing, removal of non viable tissue where appropriate, and a suitable dressing selected for the wound’s condition. Options can include specialist topical dressings and, for selected wounds, negative pressure wound therapy. This therapy uses a sealed dressing connected to a device that applies controlled suction; a smaller device may be considered for some surgical incisions. The clinician will explain which approach is suitable after assessment.
