At the consultation, the specialist assesses the stoma, the surrounding skin, the nature of the output, and how the stoma sits above the skin. They also consider your vision, dexterity, daily routine and ability to manage the appliance. This helps identify products and techniques suited to you. Support includes guidance on pouch changes, skin care, managing leakage and odour, and becoming more confident with everyday stoma care. Existing products can be reviewed if your stoma or needs have changed. Where appropriate, the team can prepare supporting documentation for your medical scheme and discuss product supply. Benefits and funding remain subject to the rules and approval of your scheme.
